Yoshio Takane earned his Bachelor of Letters (BL) degree in 1970, Master of Letters (ML) in 1972 and Doctor of letters
in 1976, all from the University of Tokyo. In 1977, he earned his Ph. D. in Psychometrics from the Univeraity of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has been on the faculty of the Department of Psychology, McGill University
(Montreal, Canada) since 1977.

He is interested in developing various psychometric methods,
and have previously published a number of articles on:

1. A variety of multivariate data analysis techniques with optimal data transformations of variables.
2. Maximum likelihood multidimensional scaling (MDS) methods for a variety of data collection procedures.
3. IRT (Item Response Theory) and ACOVS (Analysis of Covariance Structure) modelling of individual differences in preference judgments.
4. A method for contingency table analysis called IPDA (Ideal Point Discriminant Analysis).
5. Constrained Principal Component Analysis (CPCA), Different Constraints on Different Dimensions (DCDD), Extended Redundancy Analysis (ERA), and Generalized Structured Component Analysis
(GSCA).
6. Generalized Constrained Canonical Correlation Analysis (GCCANO) and Generalized Constrained Redundancy Analysis (GCRA).
7. Regularization methods for a variety of multivariate data analysis techniques.
8. Simulation of psychological phenomena by neural network (NN) models, and analysis of knowledge representations in NN models.
9. Nonlinear multivariate data analysis by NN models and kernel methods.
10. Matrix methods in psychometrics.
